The 2019 Eco & Ethical Runway Show + the Upcycled Challenge was held in association with Hutt Winter Festival on the 15 August 2019 at the Lower Hutt Town Hall.
Featuring locally based designers and those from around New Zealand, the Eco Ethical & Up-cycled Runway Show promotes designers who use materials and/or production methods that are deliberately sustainable, ethical, and/or environmentally friendly.
“This type of fashion has become increasingly popular with consumers and is no longer a niche market –all aspects of what make up "eco or ethical fashion" is becoming increasingly promoted across the fashion industry to try and curb the vast waste generated by the fast fashion industry and to improve working conditions of those involved in production.
The goal with the two segment sustainable fashion event was to provide an opportunity for emerging and established designers to showcase their talent along with an opportunity for home sewers and students studying fashion design to get creative with recycled textiles in what was a very public showcase divided into two distinctive runway showcases on the night.
